Spring is one of the most popular seasons for RV camping, second only to summer. There’s no better way to appreciate the beauty of springtime while still enjoying the comfort of home than in a camper. If you’re interested in spring RV camping and want to make the most of the experience, check out this guide from JR Motors.

Why Go RV Camping in the Spring?

Most plants and animals become much less active during the winter. However, once spring comes and the weather warms up, all that changes. Flowers bloom, trees start to get their leaves back, and animals become much more active. If you RV camp primarily to connect to nature but dislike sweltering summer temperatures, spring is the ideal season for you.

How to Avoid Common Spring RV Camping Issues

Spring may be a beautiful season for RV camping, but there are also a few things you’ll want to avoid.

Mosquitoes and Ticks

Warm weather signals the return of boodsucking insects like ticks and mosquitoes. Bug repellant and long-sleeved clothing are the best way to protect yourself. You should also avoid areas where bugs tend to congregate (standing pools of water for mosquitoes, thick brush for ticks). If a tick does attach itself, remove it using tweezers rather than fire. If possible, save the tick in a plastic bag in case it needs to be tested for disease.

Rain

Spring tends to be a rainy season, so don’t forget to pack raincoats, rainboots, ponchos, and whatever else you need to keep everyone dry.

Changing Trails

During winter, fallen trees, erosion, fallen trail markers, and so on can change a trail’s appearance. Since these trails often aren’t used as frequently during the winter, these changes may not have been noticed yet, so be aware while hiking.

Pollen

When warm spring weather causes plants to become more active, pollen counts climb. While pollen allergies usually aren’t deadly, they can still impact your enjoyment to a significant degree. Be sure to bring along enough antihistamines to last the whole trip, along with any toiletry items you think you’ll need.
